Diffraction Grating

1) Define Diffraction?
Ans: The phenomenon of bending of light waves around the edges of obstacles and their spreading into the geometrical shadow of the obstacle is called diffraction of light.


2) Mention the two types of diffraction?
Ans: i) Fresnel diffraction
        ii)Fraunhofer diffraction


3) What is the type of diffraction in the diffraction grating experiment?
Ans: Fraunhofer diffraction is involved because the source and the screen are effectively at infinite distance.


4) What is grating?
Ans: A grating is a plane glass plate on which a large number of opaque rulings are drawn at equidistance with a diamond head.

    1. There a convex lens is used so tgat light bim are turned to plane wavefront

    2. Infinte distance means rays of light should be parallel.....nd see we get parallel rays from collimator..that means...we can assume that...source and screen are at infinite distance

    3. It is written the effective distance between them is infinite.... Because the light wave incident on grating is a plane wave , so it seems as if the source is at infinite distance.
